1st February 2017

Following the release of his debut self-titled album and graduation from Bower Grove School in June 2015, Mikey started to explore a new form of songwriting, taking inspiration from American folk and country music, born from his new found love for Bob Dylan. The first result to this was "Home", the lead single from Mikey's future second album Dreamer (2019). Originally written in August 2015, carrying out a similar Ed Sheeran-esque folk-pop style to "You And Me" and "The Best Day Of My Life" from Mikey's first album, under the production of Tom Blashford, the song was given a boppy Dylan-esque harmonica hook, blending elements of folk rock, country and rockabilly, with influences of classical and progressive rock. The latter is particularly noticeable with the song's use of mellotron; a notable instrument in the work of late-1960s and early-to mid 1970s bands, such as The Beatles ("Strawberry Fields Forever"), The Rolling Stones ("She's A Rainbow"), Pink Floyd ("Atom Heart Mother"), Genesis ("Dancing With The Moonlit Knight"), Yes ("Heart Of The Sunrise", Roundabout") and King Crimson ("Fallen Angel, "Easy Money").

LYRICS

Written by Michael Mikey Brennan

I'm standing here, like a solider
I'm standing here, like a statue
I'm lost, and I don't know where to go
I wanna go home

I'm standing here, doing nothing at all
And I don't know where I am
But I'm standing here all alone
And I wanna go home

I wanna go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go
Home, home, home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home

I'm standing here, for hours on end
But this is not where I belong

Home, home, home I wanna go home
Yeah, I wanna go home
Yеah, I wanna go home

Walking, walking, walking
Tryna' find a way home
Walking, walking, walking
Tryna' find a way home
Tryna' find a way home
Tryna' find a way home
Walking, walking, walking
Walking home
Walking, walking, walking
Walking home
Walking, walking, walking
Soon I'll be home
Walking, walking, walking
Tryna' find a way home

Look at me now
I'm finally home
Yeah, I'm finally home
Yeah, I'm finally home
Where I belong
Where I belong
I'm home
Where I belong
I'm home
Home sweet home
