Queen Elizabeth II: 1926 - 2022

Earlier this year on 6th February, me and the boys - Aaron Tatham (DJ Azza) on drums, Brian Leslie on guitar and Ben Goffin on bass - were rehearsing for a gig we had at The Brunswick in Brighton & Hove the following week. Seeing as it was the 70 year anniversary of the Queen's coronation that day, we just had to play "God Save The Queen" by the Sex Pistols (we had already played "Pretty Vacant", as it was part of our set for the gig), and record a snippet of our rendition to post to social media for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee in June. We figured there was no better time than the present, and that it was an opportunity we just couldn't let pass, as it was unlikely that we would ever get the chance again, because this was more than likely going to be the Queen's final jubilee, as it was doubtful that she would live to be 106 for the next one, though it would have been cool if she did, as she would have broken her mother's record, who died at 101! (I thought she could have at least made it to 100!). Little did we know when we recorded this, that she would pass away seven months later. We all knew this day was coming, and she certainly lasted much longer than any of us could have ever imagined, yet now that it's finally here, it feels all too soon and surreal. We all grew up with this women; on our tv screens, on every coin and bank note we ever spent, and every stamp for every letter we ever posted. Regardless of what our views may be on the monarchy, a lot of us Brits will feel as if a part of ourselves has gone away with her. For 70 years she has been the face of our country and it will certainly feel weird without her. For many of us, the fact that we're not part of Europe anymore still hasn't sunk in, so getting used to an England with a King, instead of a Queen, will take a lot of time!

Rest in peace, your majesty. Thank you for everything, ma'am! 🇬🇧
